During an endoscopy, a doctor inserts a long tube with a light and a camera called an endoscope into a patient’s esophagus, colon, stomach, ears, nose, throat, heart, urinary tract or abdomen. Endoscopy Nurse job duties directly contribute to the success of these procedures by providing care to the patient and assistance to the doctor. When they’re successful in their roles, they can help a medical facility or practice deliver exceptional care and adhere to health and safety standards. As a result, their work reduces the risk of medical errors and can positively impact patient satisfaction rates.
An Endoscopy Nurse, or Endoscopy RN, helps perform endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat health issues. Their duties include preparing patients for procedures, assisting the doctor performing the test and delivering patient care during recovery.

- Monitoring patient vital signs during and after the procedure
- Providing discharge instructions to patients before they leave the hospital, clinic or doctor’s office
En konkurrenskraftig Endoscopy Nurse kommer att ha vissa färdigheter och kvalifikationer, inklusive:
- Familiarity with equipment like IV lines, endoscopes, flexible forceps, biopsy forceps and cytology brushes
- Strong oral communication skills to interact with other health care professionals and patients

- Multitasking skills to quickly shift focus from one task to another during procedures
- Demonstrated written communication skills to complete reports
