Head Coaches usually have previous coaching experience, often as an Assistant Coach, which is typically a stepping stone for a Head Coach position. Some candidates might get their experience from volunteering in the coaching field

Planning and leading practice sessions

Providing feedback and coaching during competitions
Maintaining player and team records
Recruiting new athletes for the team
Mentoring players to develop sportsmanship and respect for the game
Motivating players to improve
Maintaining the equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions
