A math teacher, or mathematics instructor, is a subject-specific type of elementary, middle school or high school educator who has the responsibility of teaching mathematics and related subjects to students. High school and middle school math teachers are often similar to other types of nonuniversity-level teachers in that the subjects they teach can shift, based on organizational and curriculum needs. In other words, a degree in mathematics isn’t always necessarily needed for this profession.
