They work closely with marketing professionals to learn from them and develop their skill set. Their job is to reach out to influencers, participate in meetings to develop social media strategies and help marketing specialists complete specific tasks. They may also be responsible for taking pictures for social media platforms and setting up business accounts on one or more platforms.

A Social Media Intern, or Social Media Marketing Intern, is responsible for assisting in a range of marketing initiatives within an organization. Their duties include tracking analytics for social media campaigns, creating social media posting schedules and writing captions for social media posts.
Responsibilities
A Social Media Intern should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Social Media Intern should be able to execute:
  • Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns
  • Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote company brands on various social media websites
  • Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos and press releases on social media and traditional news outlets
  • Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
  • Perform social media marketing research
  • Respond to comments and DMs on social media platforms
Required Skills
A competitive Social Media Intern will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
  • Bachelor’s degree in digital communications or related field such as advertising or Journalism
  • 2+ years’ experience in digital marketing/social media marketing
  • Impeccable oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent internet research skills
  • Mastery of the major social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snap and Google+
  • Knowledge of social media analytics software including Facebook Insights, Google Analytics and Twitter Analytics to track audience engagement and campaign performance
