Maintenance Managers are the leaders of a company’s maintenance department. They supervise the company’s maintenance operations and processes. They’re also responsible for assisting with budget creation and tracking their expenses for the leadership team to review. Maintenance Managers will troubleshoot and repair any piece of machinery to ensure it works properly and is safe for employees to use. They also regularly visit the facilities they’ve previously worked on and inspect them to see if there are any clear problems that need to be fixed. Additionally, Maintenance Managers must approve all installation and repair activities completed by anyone on their maintenance team.
What does a Maintenance Manager do?
Maintenance Managers, or Maintenance Supervisors, oversee the repairs, installations and upkeep of various buildings, offices and other facilities. Their main duties include designing maintenance procedures, tracking budgets and expenses and performing inspections on different facilities to find problems and make repairs.
Responsibilities
A Maintenance Manager should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Maintenance Manager should be able to execute:
  • Train and supervise employees of the maintenance department
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for execution of maintenance work
  • Ensure operational efficiency of electrical equipment and mechanical systems through timely inspection and repair
  • Ensure that company premises and facilities are kept in clean and hygienic condition
  • Implement workplace safety policies and standards
Required Skills
A competitive Maintenance Manager will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, administration or facility management
  • Minimum experience of 10 years in a supervisory role
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Familiarity in drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics
  • Effective communication and people management skills
