What does a Landscape Artchitect do?

A Landscape Architect, or Landscaping Architect, designs outdoor spaces to ensure that they fulfill their function and suit environmental conditions in the construction area. Meeting with clients to determine the purpose of projects and gain an understanding of clients’ needs
Examining environmental reports to learn about drainage, elevation, sun exposure and other characteristics of sites
Visiting sites to become familiar with their natural features and the appearance and layout of any existing buildings
Ensuring that plans comply with state and local laws and regulations
Producing rough sketches that show the layout of buildings, walkways, trees, shrubs, gardens and other elements
Using computer-aided drafting software to produce detailed plans to guide contractors

A competitive Landscape Artchitect will have certain skills and qualifications, including:

Creative thinking ability to devise site plans
Interviewing skills to learn about clients’ needs
Problem-solving skills to revise plans and overcome obstacles to planning sites
Verbal communication skills to interact with clients, coworkers and construction professionals
Robust knowledge of plant and soil science, ecology and construction
Familiarity with computer-aided drafting, spreadsheet, email and graphic design software
