Integration engineers essentially create and apply solutions for implementations between hardware, software and other systems between the different departments of an organization or throughout it. They assess existing systems to determine how they can be integrated with other systems or if and where they need to be replaced. Integration engineers also communicate with their clients or the relevant individuals in their organization to understand the integration needs and create test plans and designs.

What does a Integration Engineer do?

An integration engineer is charged with the somewhat nebulous task of developing and integrating hardware, IT and software systems that organizations use. They implement solutions and then coordinate their integration between different parts of an enterprise and its divisions. Integration engineers also assess existing infrastructure and its components to determine what requirements exist and how to implement them. In addition, integration engineers often reuse existing solutions when possible and also perform troubleshooting for ICT systems.

Handling a broad range of software and other programming tasks to ensure that their systems integrations are functional.
Implementing ICT system best practices in their organization for the sake of legal and ethical policies for integration

Required Skills

A competitive Integration Engineer will have certain skills and qualifications, including:

Complex and versatile programming knowledge for different languages and hardware uses
A strong knowledge of how to interpret organizational, software and hardware implementation blueprints and technical documents
Excellent communications skills for explaining complex implementation processes to non-experts and also to clients and organization members
A firm knowledge of the industry their occupation is being applied in and its overall needs
High level written communication skills for the sake of producing the technical documentation for their integration work
A strong understanding of ICT system deployment and usage policies
