Responsibilities
A Forestry Technician should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Forestry Technician should be able to execute:
  • Gathering and analyzing plant samples to check for signs of pests and disease
  • Implementing plans for addressing pest and disease outbreaks
  • Identifying forest fire risks and taking steps to mitigate them
  • Writing reports that share test results and observations made during inspections
  • Dispatching firefighters and coordinating their activities
  • Assessing the damage caused by fires and helping with cleanup and repair efforts
Required Skills
A competitive Forestry Technician will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
  • Strong background in biology and environmental science
  • Analytical skills to understand the results of scientific testing
  • Problem-solving skills to develop plans of action related to conservation and emergency response
  • Ability to move safely over rough, uneven terrain and to travel over long distances
  • Interpersonal skills to enforce rules with authority and deescalate confrontations
