Natural disasters and other emergencies might not happen frequently, but when they do, your organization needs a response plan. That’s where an Emergency Management Specialist comes in. They work through disaster scenarios and create a plan to prepare for and respond to those situations. The goal is to minimize damage and injuries if a crisis happens. When an emergency occurs, the Emergency Management Specialist takes the lead, guiding the response and working with government officials and other agencies in the aftermath.
What does a Emergency Management Specialist do?
An Emergency Management Specialist, or Emergency Management Director, prepares for any type of emergency and coordinates the response if an emergency happens. Their duties include drafting emergency preparedness plans, training others on emergency protocols and handling the response.

A Emergency Management Specialist should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Emergency Management Specialist should be able to execute:
  • Performing research related to potential threats
  • Developing detailed emergency response plans
  • Staying current on laws and regulations as they relate to emergency preparedness procedures
  • Collaborating with other agencies that might help during an emergency
  • Training others on the crisis protocols before incidents happen
  • Preparing equipment that might be used if a situation arises
