The primary responsibility of a CT Technologist is to ensure physicians and other members of a patient’s care team receive high-quality images they can use to make diagnoses or assess the success of treatments.
A CT Technologist should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a CT Technologist should be able to execute:
- Interpreting the orders provided by the physician or other prescribing medical professional
- Explaining what will happen during the CT scan to patients
- Positioning patients properly to take the necessary images
- Administering IVs that contain contrast dyes to enhance imaging
- Examining images to ensure they’re usable
- Updating patient medical information
A competitive CT Technologist will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
- Deep familiarity with CT scan equipment
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, biology and chemistry and how to administer IVs
- Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues with CT scan equipment performance
- Observational skills to notice any problems with images
- Strong oral communications skills to field patients’ questions and collaborate with other members of the care team
- Organizational skills to maintain an orderly supply area
