A Stock Associate, or Stocking Associate, keeps shelves, racks and display units fully stocked and organized in stores. Some job duties commonly found in a Stock Associate job description include unloading boxes and pallets of merchandise, adding price tags to new merchandise and arranging items on the sales floor.
A Stock Associate should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Stock Associate should be able to execute:
- Removing merchandise from boxes and pallets
- Inspecting merchandise for damage and imperfections, and logging defective items as needed
- Printing price tags or labels and applying them to merchandise
- Scanning items and entering them into the inventory system
- Placing inventory in storage areas within the storeroom or warehouse
- Returning products left at checkout areas and other places to their appropriate locations
A competitive Stock Associate will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
- Ability to move items weighing 25 to 100+ pounds, depending on the particular merchandise you carry
- Computer skills to operate inventory control software
- Ability to utilize tools and equipment, such as inventory scanners and cutting tools
- Listening skills to understand and follow instructions from Supervisors and Managers
- Knowledge of health and safety policies to help avoid injuries
- Memorization skills to learn the store layout and remember where various items go
