Drywall Installers handle a specific part of the construction or renovation process. Their work takes place on new construction and renovation sites and happens after the framing is done. Other steps that typically take place beforehand include installing, running electrical wiring and installing plumbing pipes. Since the drywall panels cover everything behind them, work that happens inside the walls has to take place first. The goal of the Drywall Installer is to hang the drywall perfectly to create a secure, smooth wall for the space.
A Drywall Installer, or Drywall Hanger, performs the hands-on labor required for hanging and finishing drywall in new or renovated structures. Their duties include preparing the drywall panels for installation, fastening the panels to the support structure and finishing the joints where the panels meet.
A Drywall Installer should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Drywall Installer should be able to execute:
- Reading blueprints as a guide for installing drywall
- Measuring and marking drywall panels to fit the area
- Cutting the panels to size
- Attaching drywall to the studs or framework
- Taping and sealing the seams to ensure there are no gaps
- Cleaning tools used during the installation process
A competitive Drywall Installer will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
- Understanding of basic drywall handling and installation
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with reading blueprints
- Attention to detail
- Accuracy with measurements
