A Dialysis Technician, also called a Renal Dialysis Technician or Hemodialysis Technician, administers kidney dialysis treatments to patients.   • Setting up, operating and maintaining kidney dialysis machines
  • Preparing patients for dialysis and administering local anesthesia to reduce discomfort
  • Monitoring patients throughout the dialysis process and attending to any needs
  • Responding to medical emergencies
  • Updating and collaborating patient condition with nurses, physicians and other care team members
Required Skills
A competitive Dialysis Technician will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
  • Understanding of urinary system anatomy and the symptoms and causes of kidney failure and kidney disease
  • Interpersonal skills to foster trust and interact with patients and coworkers positively
  • Familiarity with the operation, cleaning and maintenance of kidney dialysis machines
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot dialysis machines
  • Observational skills to monitor patients and identify potential risks to patient safety
  • Multitasking and organizational skills to care for multiple patients
