Crew Members typically work for restaurants, cafes and other food establishments to ensure that customers receive their orders promptly. They communicate with their coworkers to expedite orders, and help customers when they receive the wrong order. Their job is to count the drawer at the end of the day, organize orders for takeout or deliver food to diners at the correct tables. They may also be responsible for taking inventory of produce and dining materials for Managers.
What does a Crew Member do?
Crew Member, is responsible for assisting a team of restaurant staff in preparing orders and interacting with customers. Their duties include greeting customers and inputting their order requests into a computer system, working as part of an assembly line to cook and package orders and maintaining a clean workspace by sanitizing surfaces before, during and after shifts.
Responsibilities
A Crew Member should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Crew Member should be able to execute:
  • Serving customers in a timely manner
  • Assisting in the training of new Crew Members
  • Working within a team setting to meet sales goals during a shift
  • Following the company’s security and safety procedures
  • Arriving for the start of their shift on time and staying until all duties are complete
Required Skills
A competitive Crew Member will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
  • Customer service skills: Customer service is crucial to any position in a restaurant. These skills include practicing patience and empathy, being knowledgeable of the food the restaurant serves and active listening.
  • Interpersonal skills: These skills assist employees in building relationships and interacting with each other. Interpersonal skills include communicating verbally and reading nonverbal cues like facial expressions and body language and responding accordingly.
  • Verbal communication skills: Crew Members often receive on-the-job training that requires them to follow guidance and verbal instructions from other employees and supervisors. They need to be able to clearly communicate with coworkers and customers while actively listening when someone else is speaking to them.
  • Written communication skills: Crew Members need to follow written recipes and food preparation instructions in addition to written policies on security, sanitization and safety required to maintain a healthy and safe environment.
