A Coach, or Head Coach, guides and teaches athletes the skills they need for a specific sport. Their duties include skills coaching, helping to condition athletes and enforcing safety procedures.
A Coach should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Coach should be able to execute:
- Planning and leading practice sessions
Creating strategies to lead the team to victory in competitions
Providing feedback and coaching during competitions
Maintaining player and team records
Recruiting new athletes for the team
Mentoring players to develop sportsmanship and respect for the game
Motivating players to improve
Maintaining the equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions
A competitive Coach will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
- • Understanding of the rules and regulations governing the sport
• Familiarity with specific skills and strategies for the sport
• Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop athletes
• Focus on playing fair and adhering to the organization’s code of conduct
• Facilitating dispute resolution within the team structure to improve teamwork
• Communicating with other Coaches, players, parents and organization members
• Ability to help all players improve through practices and individual coaching
• Creating a safe environment designed to keep athletes healthy and injury-free
