Business Developer typically work for corporations across a variety of industries to help them achieve their business goals. They use their experience in sales and business-related roles to contribute innovative ideas to a company and its future growth within an industry. Their job is to conduct market research and analyze their company’s current products and services to determine necessary adjustments for increased customer engagement. Business Developers may also need to travel to different states or countries to negotiate client contracts and obtain new business partners.
What does a Business Developer do?
A Business Developer, or Business Development Analyst, is responsible for helping organizations obtain better brand recognition and financial growth. Their duties include coordinating with company executives, sales and marketing professionals, reviewing current market trends and proposing new business ideas to improve revenue.
Responsibilities
A Business Developer should be able to fulfill various duties and responsibilities. The following are some duties and responsibilities a Business Developer should be able to execute:
  • Identify and research potential clients
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Coordinate with sales teams to develop mutually beneficial proposals
  • Negotiate contract terms with clients and communicate with stakeholders
  • Monitor project teams to ensure contracts are executed as agreed
  • Gather useful information from customer and competitor data
  • Make and give presentations to prospective clients and internal executives
  • Create and implement processes and policies to support the overall business
Required Skills
A competitive Business Developer will have certain skills and qualifications, including:
  • Demonstrated ability in business-to-business (B2B) sales
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies
  • Familiarity with the industry including equipment, logistics and supply-chain management
  • Problem-solving skills to propose mutually beneficial solutions
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Ability and willingness to travel for meetings with prospective and existing clients
